Steve's career as a dedicated leader has been marked by his commitment to coaching individuals through challenging circumstances. With thirty-one years of experience as an officer and leader, he has cultivated skills such as perseverance, adaptability, objectivity, and compassion. His crowning achievement came when he was selected to serve as the Interim Chief of the Calgary Police Service, demonstrating his ability to lead effectively and support others through their professional journeys.
Over half of Steve’s professional career was spent at a Senior Management or Executive level. His diverse experience includes leadership roles in Human Resources, Professional Standards, and Career Development, fueling his passion for guiding others toward career success. Additionally, he has overseen departments such as Major Crimes, Specialized Investigation, and the Organized Crime Section, honing his leadership skills in a constantly evolving environment. Through these experiences, Steve has developed the ability to adapt quickly, navigate challenges, and mentor individuals and teams through sensitive and confidential situations, earning their trust along the way. As an independent consultant, Steve continues to apply his knowledge and skills working with clients from a broad range of industry, including non-profit, technology, oil and gas, and First Nations policing. Steve is adept at working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. His experiences translate seamlessly into both one-on-one sessions and delivery of workshops including Respectful Workplace for Leaders.
Steve has a Criminology Diploma from Mount Royal University and Human Resources and Conflict Management Certificates from the University of Calgary. He has also completed Certificates in Forensic Investigation, Project Management, Trauma Informed Training, and Threat Assessment and Risk Management. He has continued his Leadership focussed learning and development through the Haskayne School of Business, Police Executive Research Forum, The Banff Education Centre, and the Alberta School of Business through the University of Alberta.
