Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FIPPA) Boot Camp

What is and what is not FIPPable?

What can I withhold and what must I release?

Can I charge fees?

What happens if an applicant requests a review by the Commissioner?

Is my public body collecting, using and disclosing personal information in the right way?

Am I going too far or not far enough in protecting personal information to the required standard?

How do I respond to a privacy breach?

Have you been asking these questions lately?  This intensive one-day seminar directly addresses these and many more relating to access to information and privacy compliance under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). A FIPPA expert will lead participants through the full span of access and privacy requirement, providing detailed description and analysis of the legislative right of access standards, allowable exemptions, search, severing and response procedures, fees, requests for correction, third party notices, collection, use and disclosure rules, correction and accuracy, security requirements, and regulatory risks.

The seminar will use slides, scenarios, examples and participants’ input to unravel the complicated requirements and implications of the legislation, discuss “hot issues”, and identify strategies that you can apply in your setting.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course.

The course is essential training for FIPPA coordinators, executives, IT managers, governing officials, contractors, and any public body employees who need to manage the information they create, use, and maintain. Public bodies subject to FIPPA include:

  • Provincial government departments and agencies;
  • Municipalities;
  • Planning and conservation districts;
  • Police Boards;
  • Universities and colleges;
  • School divisions and districts;
  • Health regions and bodies.
