Access to Information Requests

What is and what is not FOIPable?

When is a request a right of access request and when is it just a disclosure?

What constitutes a proper search for relevant records?

How must I proactively disclose information in my organization?

What is duty to assist and how do I comply?

Can I charge fees?

What happens if an applicant requests a review by the Commissioner?

Have you been asking these questions lately?  This one-day workshop directly addresses these and many more relating to access to information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and the Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP). The seminar will provide detailed description and analysis of the legislative right of access standards, allowable exemptions, search, severing and response procedures, fees, requests for correction, and third party notices. The focus will be on Parts II and III of FOIP/LAFOIP, but will identify key relationships to the other parts of the legislation and to the regulatory review process.  We will be discussing current hot issues and regulatory decisions as well.

The session is highly interactive and will make use of scenarios, examples and participants’ input to enhance the learning experience. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course.

The course is designed for FOIP coordinators, records managers, IT managers, and operational managers handling access to, disclosure, and security of information in the following organizations in Saskatchewan:

  • Post-secondary educational institutions
