Joining Cenera in 2011, Joan primarily works in the Privacy and Records Management practice area. With an open and accessible leadership style, Joan emphasizes individual empowerment and team development while providing sound advice and guidance.
Joan loves to learn and is committed to sharing her knowledge with others in their pursuit of success. Her work as an analyst and resource administering the Alberta Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) Act inspired her interest in the world of privacy and records management. Joan takes pleasure in working with a variety of clients and is at ease in any environment. Presenting with confidence and enthusiasm, Joan is able to make the basic principles of public and private sector privacy legislation easily understandable.

Joan is skilled at clarifying an organization’s obligations regarding its care and control of personal information as well as the obligations of individual employees with respect to balancing the protection of personal information with the need for transparency and access. Joan’s extensive experience as a legal author and editor has equipped her with exceptional skills in research, interpretation, analysis and application of policy, legislation, legal and procedural issues. Clients can rest assured that Joan optimizes time and resources ensuring a high quality outcome every time.
Volunteering in ways that enrich our community
All year round, Joan can be found enjoying the outdoors with her family while walking, biking, hiking, boating, skiing and snowshoeing. She gives to her community as a school volunteer and parent-council member. Joan is a Canadian Blood Services plasma donor and volunteers for the Calgary Olympic Track Club, Diabetes Association and Cancer Foundation. Joan entertains family and friends frequently, but can be found just as often curled up with a great book.
